What’s on your nightstand now?

The Little Ice Age by Brian Fagan – how climate made history: 1300-1850

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?

Yes, the message is – if you belong to a religious group, never stop challenging your beliefs. You have a brain for a reason – use it.

What are your current projects?

I am working on a historical novel that takes place early in the Spanish Inquisition. It demonstrates how morals have little to do with religion and hopefully makes the reader thing about religious tolerance by telling a story that is a counterexample to tolerance.

How long does it take you to write a book?

I spent two years writing The Scrolls working weekend and evenings.  There were many mornings when I would wake up at 2 am with an idea. Unable to fall back to sleep, I would get up and write.

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

So far, my readers have been my reviewers. Four out of five reviewers joined us last Easter. All of the reviewers had performed internet searches to see if what I wrote was fact of fiction. A significant portion of the book is based on facts, at least as we know them. This surprised the reviewers. Most other discussions concerned the book ending and the controversy it likely will cause.
